Nestled on the outskirts of Banbridge, Co Down, Beechgrove Doggy Wood is a stunning new woodland.  It superbly blends nature, recreation, and sustainability. Established in 2022, this incredible 12-hectare site was planted to complement the thriving Doggy Fun Park next door. With native trees, rolling hills, and a riverside walk, it’s a tranquil escape that’s been designed to grow and evolve beautifully over time.

A Green Addition to the Doggy Fun Park

Beechgrove Doggy Wood wasn’t just a green project—it was a natural extension of the existing Doggy Fun Park. Located on Drumlin land, the new woodland enhances the area’s existing beauty. The wood creates a perfect setting for dog lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. The land, previously used for agriculture, has been transformed into a vibrant, living space. Twenty-two thousand native trees have now been planted to provide habitat and scenery.

Rural Diversification at Its Best

The woodland project is a prime example of rural diversification—finding ways to make the most of the land while also benefiting the local environment and economy. By extending the Doggy Fun Park with a native woodland, the landowners have not only created an attractive space but have also added value to their existing business.

The Role of IndiWoods in Beechgrove Doggy Wood

The transformation of Beechgrove Doggy Wood wouldn’t have been possible without the expertise of IndiWoods, a leading name in woodland creation. Working closely with the landowners, Carolyn Trimble and her team from IndiWoods provided invaluable support every step of the way. From planning and site preparation to sourcing the right trees and overseeing the planting, IndiWoods made sure the project was a success.

IndiWoods helped the landowners apply for funding through the Forest Expansion scheme, ensuring that the project was financially supported for long-term success. In addition to the woodland creation, this funding provides the owners with annual income for the next 10 years, plus eligibility for Carbon Credits, which add an extra layer of sustainability to the project.

A Year of Tremendous Growth

The first year of growth has been impressive, with the woodland thriving and taking shape beautifully. The land’s natural dips and hollows have created a varied landscape, and the views from the top of the hill are absolutely breathtaking. Cut paths throughout the woodland allow visitors to explore the area easily, making it feel welcoming and accessible.

These well-maintained paths not only enhance the experience for visitors but also ensure that the woodland remains a functional, attractive space. The riverside walk adds to the serenity, making it an ideal location for peaceful walks or just enjoying the beauty of nature.

Sustainability and Carbon Credits

One of the standout features of Beechgrove Doggy Wood is its commitment to sustainability. By planting native trees and maintaining a healthy ecosystem, the project contributes to carbon sequestration. Trees help offset the environmental impact of nearby developments. The woodland is also eligible for Carbon Credits, which further supports its ecological and financial viability.

A Bright Future Ahead

The future of Beechgrove Doggy Wood looks incredibly promising. As the trees mature, the woodland will continue to evolve, offering more wildlife habitat, greater biodiversity, and even more beauty. It’s not just a woodland; it’s an investment in the future—a natural space that will only get better with time.

For the landowners, the financial support from the Forest Expansion scheme and the potential income from Carbon Credits ensure that the woodland remains a valuable asset. With 22,000 trees already in the ground, there’s no doubt that Beechgrove Doggy Wood will become a beloved feature of the local landscape for years to come.
