The DAERA Farming with Nature Scheme has launched an exciting opportunity to reintroduce trees and hedges to farmland across Northern Ireland. In particular, at IndiWoods, trees and hedgerows are essential for a healthy, thriving farm. They serve as windbreaks, pollution filters, water managers, pollinator havens, and biodiversity corridors. Therefore, this new scheme is an excellent chance for farmers to get involved this summer.
What is the Farming with Nature scheme?
So, what exactly is the Farming with Nature scheme? It is DAERA’s new £9,500 per farm environmental support program. Moreover, it offers options for farmland planting, hedge planting, riparian zones, winter stubble, multi-species winter cover, and fencing. Notably, the scheme is open for applications until August 4th. Thus, now is the time to apply and boost your farm’s income.
For instance, the farmland tree planting option allows you to plant small blocks of trees, starting from just 0.05 ha. You can utilise awkward corners or marginal land for this purpose. Additionally, create buffer zones, windbreaks, and shelter belts on your farm. You can also plant new hedges with strips as small as 10 meters.
