Common Birch (Betula Pubescens) Tree Bundles. Common in damp soils and can even tolerate waterlogged and peaty areas. Young branches are bigger than those of the silver birch and have grey bark, often covered with lichen and moss. It is slower growing than the silver birch. The leaves are oval with a pointed tip and finely serrated margin. A straight, tall tree with drooping branches growing 20 metres or more.
Downy Birch provides food and habitat for more than 300 insects.
