Beech (Fagus Sylvastica) is a large, vigorous deciduous tree with a broad, spreading crown. It is, however, a prevalent deciduous hedging tree. The striking winter leaves stay on the hedge until they are ready to make way for new growth in spring, making beech hedging an excellent alternative to evergreen hedging that provides year-round interest.

Its leaves are yellow-green in spring and a rich russet-brown in autumn. Flowers are small and green, followed by bristly fruits.
